I still remember the first time I wrote something that felt like me. It wasn't perfect, but I was able to express myself in ways I had never before. From that day on I was able to understand myself and the world better. Writing gives me peace, helps me process my emotions, and reminds me that I’m not alone. Especially when reading others' words and I can feel seen in them. Writing also facilitates a sense of confidence knowing that I have a voice and my words have power.
Because of how writing has impacted me, I'm passionate about helping kids experience that same feeling. That's why I started Letters and Voices– to help children who struggle with reading and writing find their voices too. Reading and writing shouldnt be a privilege, it should be a tool that everyone has access to. I want every child to read books and stories that reflect their cultures, their struggles, and their dreams.
